We recently shipped some large, 18-inch BW150SS stainless steel strainers to an ammonia plant.
These basket strainers are custom fabricated from 304/304L stainless steel.
They include raised face flanged inlets and outlets.
You’ll notice the flanged drain which is on the side of the body rather than the bottom, because there were clearance issues if it was on the bottom. In the photos you’ll notice the drain includes a light blue flange protector in it.
The strainers have legs to allow them to be self-supporting. This ensures that the units do not add any stress to adjacent piping.
The unit includes a bolted cover with a davit assembly to make cleaning easier. The davit allows the heavy blind flange to be swung out of the way when the baskets are removed for cleaning.
Speaking of basket cleaning, this unit has a very unique and creative basket arrangement. There are actually 4 smaller baskets inside this large strainer.
We’ll come clean on this next photo and indicate that it came from a previous order. But it represents the type of basket configuration in the order we just shipped.
Each smaller basket will be much lighter to remove and clean, rather than just one large basket full of strained materials. If a large strainer is going into a plant where there is an overhead crane or hoist to aid in removing a larger strainer for cleaning, then this configuration is not necessary.
Like all our custom engineered solutions the Sure Flow Equipment Engineering Team always visualizes the challenge that the actual application of the strainer will present. An easier and less challenging solution for cleaning is more likely to increase the likelihood that the unit will be cleaned in a timely manner. And this ensures increased safety for the operator, more efficient operation of the process and increased productivity. We’re confident that most of our customers would have these as their core goals.
A “safe, efficient working environment” would make a pretty awesome corporate philosophy for so many of our customers utilizing debris removal and straining on this scale, and Sure Flow Equipment is always proud to be part of that objective.
